Where the green comes from

The valley is narrow and the season is short. Emerald is found there in white veins that cut through dark schist, and the crystals that come out are small, saturated, and often cleaner than their Colombian cousins.

We have bought from the same two families for six years. The stones arrive uncut, wrapped in paper, and we cut them slowly.

Why one stone

A house needs a habit. Ours is this green. It is the colour we set into the hinge of a bracelet and the lock of a box, whether or not the patron asked for it.

The stone is the signature. The rest is handwriting.
